Ted Talks
As I listened to various ted talks about privacy, I learned all the ways the government is tracking our every move. I was not that shocked because at this point we have trackers in our phone, and don't get me started on the Cover Tracker that just magically appeared one day.
Two of the talks that stuck with me were Juan Enriquez's "Your online life, permanent as a tattoo" and Darieth Chisolm's "How revenge porn turns your life upside down." They both were interesting and explained well what social media or pictures do to your life.
Juan talked about how what you post online can send a message just like a tattoo does.
How do I feel
There are many things that I wish I would have never shared online or with my electronic devices. I think that we have no privacy and that it will not get better in the upcoming years.
The fact that police cars have hundreds of pictures of you doing your day to day life is shocking because they don't need this information, they choose to have it.
It makes no sense but we have to live with it because that's what our government has come down to. I feel the same way about Alexa being able to listen in on conversations without being told to do so, what's the purpose? I understand that sometimes websites have cookies so they show ads but there's no need for all of our information to be used. I think this can be a way to influence the way we think and what we buy.
Don't get me wrong I use Face ID and Apple Pay but I do think it's sketchy. See but that's things we gave with permission but them tracking us by our cars was not something I personally signed up for.
What can we do
If you want to stay safe and have more privacy some ways you can do this is by
- Using VPNs
- Not accepting cookies
- Clearing your search bar
- Use websites that don't take your data
Although your information like a fingerprint, face ID, and other things have been taken from you because it seemed safer and beneficial. If you don't want them to take any more privacy follow some of the steps above
