Privacy and Ted Talks: Blog 9

 Ted Talks

As I listened to various ted talks about privacy, I learned all the ways the government is tracking our every move. I was not that shocked because at this point we have trackers in our phone, and don't get me started on the Cover Tracker that just magically appeared one day.

Two of the talks that stuck with me were Juan Enriquez's "Your online life, permanent as a tattoo" and Darieth Chisolm's "How revenge porn turns your life upside down." They both were interesting and explained well what social media or pictures do to your life.

Juan talked about how what you post online can send a message just like a tattoo does.

Darieth spoke on her experience with revenge porn and how much it effected her life. How it changed the way she saw media and what people can do just to get revenge.

How do I feel

There are many things that I wish I would have never shared online or with my electronic devices. I think that we have no privacy and that it will not get better in the upcoming years.

The fact that police cars have hundreds of pictures of you doing your day to day life is shocking because they don't need this information, they choose to have it.

It makes no sense but we have to live with it because that's what our government has come down to. I feel the same way about Alexa being able to listen in on conversations without being told to do so, what's the purpose? I understand that sometimes websites have cookies so they show ads but there's no need for all of our information to be used. I think this can be a way to influence the way we think and what we buy.

Don't get me wrong I use Face ID and Apple Pay but I do think it's sketchy. See but that's things we gave with permission but them tracking us by our cars was not something I personally signed up for.

What can we do

If you want to stay safe and have more privacy some ways you can do this is by

  • Using VPNs
  • Not accepting cookies
  • Clearing your search bar
  • Use websites that don't take your data

Although your information like a fingerprint, face ID, and other things have been taken from you because it seemed safer and beneficial. If you don't want them to take any more privacy follow some of the steps above

The Supreme Court The Supreme Court is apart of the judicial branch. As you can probably tell since it does Supreme, they are the highest federal court for our nation. They make sure that laws are being practiced and that everything that goes on in court cases and new laws is constitutional. They also have the power to check the other two branches to make sure they aren't going overboard. The Supreme Court has 9 justices, who are the people that help make decisions and make sure the other two branches in the government are being constitutional when making laws or when people want to know if something is within their rights or not. The Beginning  While the Supreme Court was established in the constitution it wasn't of any use until 1803 when Marbury v. Madison came into play It is one of the most known cases and is seen has the case that really made the Judicial branch have power. Later on, they decided that there should be 9 justices and they have not changed that number ever...

My 5 top sources for news and information  When I was looking over my top 5 news sources from last semester, I thought my sources wouldn't change but it turns out I use many different outlets to receive my news. I found that so interesting because that was last semester, it goes to show that a lot can change in a course of 6 months. CNN  While CNN leans it's biased towards a liberal standpoint, when I need to see what's going on they are the ones that usually pop on. When I search for anything news-related, they are also the ones at the top of my search list. Something that also makes me automatically look at them for news is the fact that they also have a Spanish channel. I would say they are reliable but would also suggest looking at other news sources just so it isn't as biased and you get to see the whole picture. https://www.cnn.com The Washington Post When I need to look at anything that relates to the president or congress, I always go see what "The Washingt...
